Trauma can change a person’s world in an instant. Whether it stems from domestic violence, childhood abuse, loss, betrayal, or a sudden life-altering event, trauma leaves emotional imprints that can last a lifetime. It doesn’t simply fade away with time, instead, it lingers in the subconscious, replaying through intrusive memories, flashbacks, or emotional triggers that can feel impossible to escape.
If only we could erase bad memories and achieve financial stability for the rest of our lives, our mental health would no doubt improve. A reflection on trauma, OCD, MS, and the importance of stability for wellbeing
The question of whether murderers can be rehabilitated has long divided public opinion. In the UK, where the death penalty was abolished for all crimes in 1998 (with the last execution taking place in 1964), the debate occasionally resurfaces, often triggered by high-profile and shocking crimes. Others insist that no one, not even the state, has the moral right to take a life.
In the UK, one in four women and one in six men will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, and two women are killed each week by a current or former partner. The COVID-19 pandemic further exacerbated this crisis, with lockdowns trapping many victims in abusive households.
