Energy, Death, and the Possibility of Life Beyond

Science, Spirituality, and the Human Search for Meaning After Loss

The Scientific Principle: Energy Cannot Be Destroyed

One of the most widely accepted laws of physics is the law of conservation of energy, which states that energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only change form.

This concept is commonly associated with Albert Einstein, whose work on relativity helped demonstrate that matter itself is a form of energy. His famous equation E = mc² showed that mass and energy are interchangeable.

From a biological perspective, the human body is a highly complex system of energy. Our brains operate through electrical impulses, our muscles move through chemical energy, and our cells constantly convert energy to sustain life.

When a person dies, these biological systems cease functioning. However, according to physics, the energy that once formed the body does not disappear. It is released back into the surrounding environment.

For some people, this scientific fact raises deeper philosophical questions:

  • If energy cannot be destroyed, what happens to the energy associated with consciousness?
  • Could awareness or identity exist in a different form?
  • Are there aspects of existence that science has yet to fully understand?

Science provides partial answers, but the question of consciousness remains one of the greatest mysteries of human existence.

The Search for Evidence: Paranormal Investigations and Electromagnetic Energy

Paranormal investigators often attempt to detect unexplained phenomena using scientific instruments designed to measure environmental changes.

One commonly used tool is the EMF meter, which detects electromagnetic fields.

The idea behind this is based on a simple observation: the human body itself generates electromagnetic signals through brain activity and nervous system functions. If consciousness or energy continues in some form after death, some theorists suggest it might interact with electromagnetic fields in the surrounding environment.

Investigators often report unexplained spikes in EMF readings during alleged paranormal activity.

However, it is important to approach such findings cautiously. Many environmental factors can influence EMF readings, including:

  • electrical wiring
  • mobile phones
  • household appliances
  • radio frequencies
  • underground cables

At present, there is no scientific proof linking EMF fluctuations with spirits or consciousness after death. Yet the subject continues to fascinate researchers because it represents one of the few attempts to measure the unknown using technology.

Do Objects Hold Energy From Their Owners?

Across many cultures and spiritual traditions, there is a belief that personal belongings can retain traces of a person’s energy.

This idea is sometimes described as residual energy or psychometry, the theory that emotional experiences or human presence may leave an energetic imprint on objects.

Some spiritual practitioners claim that sensitive individuals can pick up impressions from objects that belonged to others.

Because of these beliefs, some traditions advise people not to wear clothing belonging to someone who has died, as it may carry their emotional or energetic imprint.

Whether this is scientifically accurate remains unknown. There is currently no measurable evidence showing that objects retain spiritual energy.

However, from a psychological perspective, personal objects can trigger powerful emotional responses because they represent memories and emotional bonds. A watch, a ring, or even an old torch may hold deep symbolic meaning because it connects us to someone we loved.

Parallel Realities and the “Hall of Mirrors” Theory

Modern physics and philosophy have also explored the possibility that our universe may not be the only reality.

Some theories propose the existence of multiple parallel universes, where different versions of events occur simultaneously.

This concept is sometimes described metaphorically as a “hall of mirrors”, where each mirror reflects a different version of reality.

Within such theories, it is possible to imagine that human consciousness may continue to exist in another dimension or state beyond the physical world we perceive.

While these ideas remain speculative, they have captured the imagination of scientists, philosophers, and spiritual thinkers alike.

They raise intriguing possibilities:

  • Perhaps death is not an end but a transition.
  • Perhaps consciousness is not limited to the physical brain.
  • Perhaps we simply move from one form of existence to another.

Memorial Diamonds: Transforming Ashes Into Something Eternal

Traditionally, many cultures bury, scatter, or store the ashes of loved ones after cremation.

However, modern technology has introduced a remarkable alternative: memorial diamonds.

Through specialised laboratory processes, carbon extracted from cremated remains can be transformed into a genuine diamond. These diamonds can then be worn as jewellery or kept as keepsakes.

For many families, this idea is deeply comforting.

Instead of feeling that a loved one has completely disappeared, their physical essence is transformed into something lasting, beautiful, and enduring.

Some people choose to wear memorial diamonds in rings or necklaces, keeping their loved ones close to them every day.

The symbolism is powerful: matter transforms, but the connection remains.

A Personal Experience and the Mystery of Energy

Earlier today, while decluttering, a small but curious event occurred.

Among the items discovered was an old wind-up torch that had once belonged to a dearly loved brother who has since passed away. The torch had not been used or charged for many years.

After roughly ten minutes of winding it, it still refused to work and was about to be thrown away.

At that moment, his name was mentioned aloud.

Almost immediately, the torch flickered on its own.

When it was said that the torch would not be thrown away, the light suddenly shone at full brightness.

Moments later, it stopped working again.

Later, after hearing the story, a guest in the house reported hearing a female voice whispering his name from the bathroom, despite the fact that both people (female) in the home were together elsewhere at the time.

Experiences like this are difficult to explain.

Some might attribute them to coincidence, electrical malfunction, or imagination. Others might interpret them as signs of energy interacting with the physical world.

There are also beliefs that certain objects or emotional moments can open “portals” or energetic gateways, allowing interaction between different dimensions of reality.

Whether one interprets such events spiritually or scientifically, they often leave a lasting impression.

Grief, Memory, and Turning Loss Into Purpose

Grief is universal. Every person will experience loss at some point in life.

Yet grief does not always have to lead to despair.

Many people eventually transform grief into something meaningful:

  • honouring loved ones through storytelling
  • creating memorial traditions
  • supporting others who are grieving
  • finding new purpose in life

For some, spiritual interpretations of energy and continued existence provide comfort.

The idea that those we love may still exist in another form, even if we cannot see them, can help ease the pain of loss.

Conclusion: Energy Never Truly Disappears

Science tells us that energy never truly vanishes; it simply transforms.

Whether that transformation includes consciousness is a question humanity continues to explore.

For those who have experienced unexplained moments, strange coincidences, or spiritual encounters, it can sometimes feel as though the boundary between life and whatever comes after it is not as absolute as we once believed.

Perhaps our loved ones remain with us through memories, through energy, or through connections that science has yet to fully understand.

And perhaps the greatest comfort lies not in having all the answers, but in knowing that love, memory, and energy may continue long after the physical body is gone.

For some families, scattering ashes brings peace. For others, creating a memorial diamond offers a way to keep a loved one close.

In my case, my daughter once shared a heartfelt wish: when the time comes, she would like my ashes to be transformed into a diamond so that she can carry me with her always. I find that idea rather beautiful. In a symbolic way, it means I could continue to shine brightly and bring a little sparkle into her life whenever she feels she needs me.

Of course, views on memorial practices vary depending on personal beliefs, culture, and religion, and some people may feel differently about such ideas. However, open and respectful conversations about death are important. Speaking about these topics does not diminish the value of life; instead, it can help us prepare emotionally and practically for the inevitable. Reading and reflecting on such possibilities in advance can offer both knowledge and a sense of comfort during difficult times.

Memorial diamonds symbolise something profound.

  • Even in death, something meaningful can remain.
  • Perhaps grief is not only about loss.
  • Perhaps it is also about transformation.
